It was an afternoon to forget for Maidstone United after they were beaten for the first time in 19 matches. The Stones were last defeated in the league on the 3 September by Chelmsford City. Maidstone never really got going in this game and they were undone by two goals inside five minutes early on in the second half.

After his hat-trick as a substitute against Enfield Town, Shaquile Coulthirst came into the starting line up with Tayt Trusty dropping into the bench. But this was the only change as the Stones had won their previous seven matches, conceding just one goal.

With a minute played, Aaron Blair spun in the area and made room for a shot. His effort was tame though and was comfortably gathered by Dillon Addai.

There was nothing else to note until the 26th minute. T’Sharne Gallimore went for goal from distance and the ball went high and wide. Nathan Minhajust then got the ball past the stretching Reece Greenidge and found Connor Roberts but his shot was wayward.

With the first half in stoppage time, the Stones had a good chance to take the lead. A big clearance from Charlie Seaman went to Blair who spotted Addai off his line. Blair lobbed Addai but the ball went just wide.

Three minutes after the break, Joe Grant passed to Ashley Lodge. Lodge arrowed a fine finish from just outside the box into the right side of the net.

Matters got worse for Maidstone shortly after this. Roberts crossed for the unmarked Connor Stevens who steered in Chesham’s second of the afternoon.

After this, the Stones had plenty of possession but they didn’t look like scoring until the 85th minute. Substitute Trusty slotted the ball to Blair who elected for an early shot which Addai beat away from the near post. From the resultant corner, Ben Brookes’ delivery was headed on by George Fowler before Sol Wanju-Smith’s header hit the bar. But this was to be the closest that Maidstone came as they slipped to their fourth league defeat of the season.
