After sticking close to home for the previous one – just over the river from the Gallagher Stadium at Whatman Park – it was time to find another well-known location. So, we headed to the beach!
That’s right – sun, sand and deckchairs.
We haven’t turned into a coastal town overnight, the beach in question is at one of, if not the most iconic locations in Maidstone – the glamorous and historic Leeds Castle.
As part of its summer programme, the popular visitor attraction has launched The Beach at Leeds Castle – where you can grab your bucket and spade, dig out your beach towel, and tuck into a mouth-watering ice cream.
Our very own beach boys – Sam Bone, George Fowler and Sol Wanjau-Smith – got kitted up for the photoshoot and after some snaps in the sand, it was time to head over to the Castle itself, which is steeped in more than 900 years of history
Club chief executive Bill Williams said: “A huge thanks to the team at Leeds Castle for hosting the photoshoot for our new home shirt, it’s a venue known around the world and we’re very fortunate to have it on our doorstep.
“It’s not every day you get to go to a beach in Maidstone either, so that made a quirky addition to the photos you will be seeing online in the weeks ahead.”
Leeds Castle Foundation rep said: “We were thrilled to host Maidstone United Football Club and share a slice of our sandy oasis for their exciting new shirt unveiling.
“Our beach is designed for all the family to enjoy, and provides an idyllic backdrop of our Great Water and seasonal parkland perfect for your own photographs… and if you’re lucky you might even catch some rays, just like the team did during the shoot. Wishing MUFC all the best for the upcoming season!”
The Beach at Leeds Castle is open every day until Saturday 30 September. On selected weekends in late-July and August, there will be beach experiences, including magic, music, sand sculptures and the legendary Punch and Judy.
