Maidstone United under-23s extended their unbeaten run into the Christmas break with a professional performance, scoring three more goals and securing another clean sheet.

This adds to their impressive defensive record of conceding only nine goals in their first ten games.

After a three-week break, there were understandably some reservations going into the game, but Maidstone started on the front foot, moving the ball well and creating chances from the outset.

Lydd stuck to their game plan, defending resolutely and frustrating Maidstone as much as possible. The breakthrough came just after the half-hour mark when Mark Boruk broke in behind the backline and finished ruthlessly to give the Stones a deserved lead.

A 1-0 advantage at half time left Maidstone in a strong position, though it could have been more if not for some outstanding goalkeeping and a double goal-line clearance.

The second half began in similar fashion, with Maidstone looking to put the game to bed early and settle any doubts. It took just 10 minutes for Mark Boruk to double his tally and give the team breathing space. The lead was further extended on 68 minutes when Farron Chime, who had been relentless all game, finally got the goal his performance merited.

The backline was rock solid once again, and thanks to another assured display from Lucas Brookman and the team’s determination to protect their lead, Maidstone secured yet another clean sheet – conceding only nine goals across their first ten matches.
