The Stones looked the stronger of the two sides until Maidenhead took the lead on 33 minutes. Early on, Riley Court went down inside the area, but no penalty was forthcoming. Then on 17 minutes, Court was fouled just outside the box. He got up to take the resultant free-kick which Jordi van Stappershoef did well to push away from the right post.

Court was involved again, when he delivered an enticing ball which fizzed across the six yard box. Jephte Tanga stretched to try and get on the end of it, but was unable to make contact.

Maidstone had a spell of keeping possession well and during this, Ruben Carvalho cut inside and struck a rising effort which Jordi van Stappershoef tipped over.

Not long after this, the Magpies took the lead. Jordan Ragguette’s long throw was flicked on by Will de Havilland. Nathan Harness got a hand to the ball but it fell nicely to Matt Robinson who lashed the ball into the net.

Just before the break, Maidenhead went close again. This time, Remy Clerima’s header went inches over the bar.

At half time, Antony Papadopoulos, returning on-loan from Crawley Town, replaced Carvalho. Within seconds, Maidstone could have equalised. The ball was squeezed through to Moore who did well to hold off De Havilland. Van Stappershoef was very quickly off his line to close the gap and he stopped Moore’s shot.

A clever free-kick from Papadopoulos saw him roll the ball into George Fowler. Fowler was slightly off balance and his effort landed on the roof of the net.

There was then very little to note until the third minute of stoppage time, as a stream of substitutions interrupted the flow of the game. One of these, Kweku Lucan, who had signed for the Stones in the week, opted for a long range shot and it was easily stopped by van Stappershoef.
