Maidstone United continue to find wins hard to come by as they were beaten by Horsham.

The first half was largely uninspiring apart from two notable chances. The first of these was when there was a massive let off for the Stones on 18 minutes. George Fowler got caught in midfield allowing Jack Mazzone to get in. Mazonne only had Harley Earle to beat and he attempted to curl the ball into the far side of the net. The Horsham striker seemed confident it was going in and started wheeling away only for the ball to thud wide.

The Stones should have opened the scoring on 43 minutes. Sol Wanjau-Smith played in Trialist B but after rounding Lewis Carey in the Horsham goal his shot was weak and cleared for a corner.

But the deadlock was broken on 51 minutes. Maidstone’s trialist keeper punched the ball away from goal and it fell to Tom Richards who volleyed a delightful finish into the net.

The Stones didn’t look like scoring until the 88th minute. A trialist picked up possession just outside the box and took a couple of touches before curling a shot which the keeper touched onto the bar.

Horsham immediately went up the other end and won a corner. From this, Maidstone failed to stop Charlie Harris from scoring with a header.

There was still time for Sol Wanjau-Smith to hit the corner of the goal frame but the Stones were beaten once again.

Horsham: Tom Richards 51, Charlie Harris 88
