There was little to report in this match as Maidstone United drew 0-0 with already relegated Weymouth. The Stones are still in pole position for the last play-off spot although they will have to wait to see what happens as Weston-Super-Mare vs Tonbridge Angels was abandoned due to a medical emergency in the crowd, with Tonbridge leading 1-0.

The first half was a flat affair with neither goalkeeper called into any meaningful action. With just two minutes played, Weymouth kept possession well and Jake McCarthy crossed for Malachi Linton whose header was not far off target.

For the Stones, Sol Wanju-Smith passed to Tayt Trusty who was lurking not far from the box. Trusty’s low drive had power but it went straight into Will Buse’s hands. And with 34 minutes gone, a very long kick from Alexis Andre Jr dropped just over the bar at the Weymouth end.

Not long after this, Charlie Seaman found Aaron Blair. Blair put a dangerous cross into the box and it was cleared away by Calvin Brooks. Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong then drifted inside and space opened up for a shot but his effort was wayward.

With the game almost at half time, there was a blow for the Stones when Wanju-Smith went off injured. He was replaced by Pharrell Willis.

Maidstone picked up the tempo early in the second half but the first opportunity fell to Weymouth. The Stones couldn’t clear their lines and the ball came to McCarthy whose effort was stopped by Andre Jr.

Berkeley-Agyepong unselfishly found Tom Leahy inside the box. Leahy’s shot was on target only for Jordan Thompson to instinctively stick out a leg and make a good block.

Late on, Aaron Blair did well to move into position for a cross. His ball in was dangerous and with Sam Corne waiting to pounce, Buse claimed the ball.

With two minutes of stoppage time played, Ben Brookes whipped in a decent corner. Trusty connected with it but his header was well wide.

There was a let off for Maidstone right at the end of the match. The ball came into substitute Brooklyn Genesini who was in a great position but from close range, he couldn’t finish and the game finished goal-less.
