Maidstone United’s chances of winning the National League South look to be diminishing after they drew with Dorking Wanderers. The Stones left it late to equalise against Wanderers and the result means that Maidstone are now ten points behind Worthing.

The Stones had a good chance to take the lead with just two minutes played. Charlie Seaman played a looping ball over the top to Arj Krasniqi who delivered a nice low pass into the six yard box. Ruben Shakpoke connected with the ball but from close range, he put it well over the bar.

Maidstone then had Alexis Andre Jr to thank for keeping the scores level. Brennan Camp knocked the ball down to Alfie Rutherford whose effort was arrowing towards the top right hand corner of the net but Andre Jr flung himself to his left to make a fine save.

Just a minute later, Seaman cut inside past Jordan Norville-Williams. Seaman spotted the opportunity to go for goal but his effort took a massive deflection which knocked it off target.

After a frantic half to the first 45 minutes, the game soon slowed down. It wasn’t until the 45 minute when there was another notable opportunity. Charlie Carter played the ball to Rutherford whose shot looked to be going wide but Andre Jr left nothing to chance and conceded the corner.

Three minutes after the break, Eweka slipped allowing Rutherford to get in. Rutherford quickly got a low drive away only for Andre Jr to make a decent stop with his feet.

By now, Dorking were starting to look the more likely of the two sides to score and they edged in front on 62 minutes. Ben Brookes’ clearance was cut out by Josh Taylor. Taylor exchanged a smart one-two with Jason Prior before finding James Muitt. Muitt squared the cross and Rutherford swept the ball in from close range.

But with a minute remaining, Maidstone equalised. Brookes knocked the ball down the line to Seaman whose cross was accidentally turned into his own net by Robert Milsom as Tom Leahy looked to pounce.
