Maidstone United and Tonbridge Angels shared the points in the Boxing Day clash at Longmead as a stunning strike from Jordan Higgs deep in stoppage time rescued a draw for the home side.

The Stones enjoyed the best of the first half but couldn’t find a way past Jonathan Henly in the Tonbridge goal. With just two minutes on the clock, the Angels defence was caught napping by the lively Matt Rush but the ball was put out for a corner.

Maidstone then put together a neat move which saw them go close. Sam Bone lifted a diagonal ball to Harry Kyprianou on the left. Kyprianou and Sol Wanju-Smith exchanged passes and Kyprianou’s rising effort went just inches over the bar.

The Stones then enjoyed a good spell of possession on 30 minutes. The ball broke to George Fowler who was about 25 yards from goal and his drive didn’t miss by much.

Tonbridge had one notable attempt on goal in the first half. Jordan Greenidge received the ball out on the right and he got past his brother Reece Greenidge before going for goal only for Lucas Covolan to push the ball over.

The second half saw the Angels start the more brightly and Covolan did well to come out of his goal and get enough on the ball to stop Mohammad Dabre getting in.

Then on 57 minutes, Bone played the ball to Kyprianou. Kyprianou made good progress down the left before putting in a low cross which Rush sent past Henly.

Tonbridge had a decent chance to equalise relatively shortly after this. Jernade Meade crossed for the unmarked Dabre who headed over when well placed.

It wasn’t until the 88th minute that Tonbridge threatened again. Meade shot from just outside the box which had Covolan diving and it fizzed past the right post.

Then in the fourth minute of stoppage time, Reece Greenidge conceded a corner. The ball was cleared as far as Jordan Higgs on the edge of the box and his excellent finish flew past Covolan into the right side of the net.
