Maidstone United extended their unbeaten run to 10 games in all competitions as they drew for the third game in succession.
The Stones couldn’t have wished for a better start. With just three minutes played, Sol Wanjau-Smith lifted the ball over the top to Levi Amantchi and his shot from the left side of the box had enough on it to roll past the stranded Harrison Lee in the Weston-super-Mare goal.
After a lively start from Maidstone, the home side suddenly started to grow in confidence. With 15 minutes played, Reuben Reid was appealing for a penalty after shirt pulling in the box when Robbie Willmott played a nice ball back into him. Gavin Hoyte tried to get across to stop Reid who got to the ball first and Lucas Covolan made a brave save from close range. A corner from Sam Corne came to Amantchi at the back post and his header was going in until Reid got it away from the line.
Reid was soon back on attacking duties. Willmott swung a free-kick into the box and Reid’s volley didn’t miss by much.
Willmott and Reid soon combined again. This time George Fowler did well to get across and block Reid’s shot to concede a corner.
With 58 minutes gone, the arriving Jordan Bastin called Covolan into action. The ball eventually went from a corner and from this, Weston were awarded a penalty after Humphries went down. Reid took the resultant spot kick, sending Covolan the wrong way.
Maidstone were struggling to get their game going in the second half and George Elokobi bought on Bivesh Gurung, Raphe Brown and Razzaq Coleman De-Graft inside 13 minutes as he tried to galvanise his side. Despite this, Weston continued to look the more likely to score and Dayle Grubb slipped the ball into James Morton only for Covolan to make a good stop.
Five minutes from time, the Seagulls went close. Willmott crossed from the right and Reid’s glancing header went inches over the bar.
