While many of you will be walking to the Gallagher Stadium, chances are you won’t have covered more than 500 miles on foot to get here.

One person who will have is Paul Dennington.

The Prostate Cancer UK ambassador set off from his birthplace of North Shields on Sunday 3 August and has spent the past four weeks criss-crossing the country, stopping at memorable locations along the way.

On the penultimate day of his 36-day, 588-mile walking challenge, Paul will be calling in at the Gallagher Stadium – aiming to arrive ahead of kick-off for the game against Horsham.

Since his diagnosis in March 2021, Paul has focused on creating lasting memories, raising awareness of prostate cancer, and generating vital funds for research into improved screening and treatments. Despite his cancer being aggressive and terminal, he has taken on several physical challenges – this one being his toughest yet.

Over the past four and a half years, Paul has raised more than £115,000 for the charity and has undoubtedly saved lives through his openness about the most common cancer in men. His incredible fundraising efforts earned him a British Empire Medal in the King’s Birthday Honours earlier this year.

If you’d like to support Paul and contribute to Prostate Cancer UK, you can visit his JustGiving page at justgiving.com/fundraising/Paul-Dennington1. Donations will also be accepted on Saturday at the awareness stands located at the Town End and under the Genco Stand.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. If you’re over 50, Black, or have a family history of the disease, your risk is even higher.

The earlier it’s found, the easier it is to treat. The first step is to check your risk – it only takes 30 seconds on Prostate Cancer UK’s website: prostatecanceruk.org/risk-checker.
