For the second game in a row, the Stones took part in a goalless draw. But Maidstone did go close on a couple on a couple of occasions in the second half, with Will Henry making a point blank save to deny substitute Matt Bentley one minute from time.
Caine Cadbury and Will Dawes caught the eye for Chippenham early on although it was the Stones who had most of the opportunities in the first half. With nine minutes played, Ben Brookes’ corner was headed down by Reece Greenidge. Shaq Coulthirst reacted quickly and he saw his effort at the near post blocked by Henry.
A corner from Jon Benton then lead to Arj Kransinqi sending over a deep cross. Greenidge was stretching and he couldn’t divert the ball on target.
Another Brookes’ corner caused Chippenham problems. This time the ball went through the six yard box and Coulthirst was inches away from getting the vital touch.
With half an hour gone, Benton’s deep ball was met by Greenidge and his header looped onto the roof of the net. Then just before the break, a neat spell of possession from Maidstone involving Aaron Blair and Benton ended with Benton’s shot deflecting off Lewis Colwell and going wide.
The second half was slightly delayed due to a seagull on the n pitch. The stubborn bird kept returning to a spot in midfield. With 50 minutes gone, Luke Spokes’ free-kick went over the seagull and into the box where it was met by Luke Haines whose header went just wide of the left post.
Maidstone started to up the tempo as the second half processed. Brookes crossed to the back post where the brave George Fowler did well to dive and keep the ball alive. It came back to Kransinqi who couldn’t get a shot away and Chippenham cleared their lines.
Pierre Fonkeu then played the ball to Blair who had a defender in close attendance. Despite this, Blair put a dangerous ball across the six yard box which was put just behind for a corner.
Maidstone went close again on 74 minutes. Benton crossed from close range and the well placed Temi Eweka headed over.
Then with just a minute remaining, Krasniqi found substitute Bruno Andrade who passed to Brookes. Brookes once again delivered a good cross which was met by Bentley. Bentley’s connection was good but the ball went straight at Henry who did well to make the save with his legs.
