Maidstone got off to a strong start with a goal on seven minutes. David Sesay sent the ball forwards and Deon Moore brilliantly held it up before laying it into the path of Dajon Golding. Golding gained some territory before unselfishly squaring it to John Gilbert who swept a fine finish past James Hamon.

The Stones then had to bring substitute goal keeper Lenny Holden on. Nathan Harness had got caught in the face as he tried to claim a ball in the box. He attempted to carry on after a spell of treatment but with 23 minutes gone, he went down and was replaced.

The game was a bitty affair, with both sides conceding numerous free-kicks. It wasn’t until the 34th minute that there was much else to note. Moore did well to nick the ball off Jordan Dyer and race into the box but Dyer recovered well to make a challenge. Moore squeezed the ball back to Jephte Tanga whose shot was blocked and then TJ Bramble’s effort was deflected behind for a corner.

With all of the stoppages, there was plenty of additional time at the end of the first half. In the seventh minute of this, Holden was called into action to deny Jay Foulsten before Hamblin stopped the follow up.

With 55 minutes gone, a clever corner from Jordan Young came to Jay Foulston. Foulston’s effort appeared to be on target but it hit a Torquay player and went wide.

Shortly after this, it was Maidstone’s turn to threaten. Gilbert did well to turn and make room in the box for a ball into Moore. Moore moved it onto Golding who was in a good position but his resultant shot was so high, that it cleared the top of the Genco stand.

Gilbert then lost the ball in midfield. Torquay quickly worked it to Louis Dennis whose low drive beat Holden and went just inches wide of the left post.

Three minutes from time, Foulston’s cross came to Dyer. Dyer’s shot looked to be going in until George Fowler got an important touch to divert it over the bar.

Torquay started to increase the pressure and in the fifth minute of stoppage time, Jordan Young went down in the box. Young took the resultant spot kick and he thumped it into the net to give the Gulls a point.
