In a very competitive pre-season fixture at Hayes Lane, it was Bromley that took victory as they came back from a goal down early on to defeat the Stones.
The Stones got off to the dream start with just over 90 seconds on the clock when Lamar Reynolds played in Trialist B who was able to slot the ball through the legs of Teddy Sharman-Lowe.
Our start seemed to settle down the lads as they were able to play some nice stuff and were gelling together really well at times during the first half which will have really pleased both George Elokobi and Craig Fagan having been a mixed bag from our first few games.
However, Bromley who have always proved dangerous from set pieces were given the opportunity to get back on level terms mid-way through the first half when Reiss Greenidge needlesly brought down George Alexander from a corner. This allowed experienced forward Adam Marriott to send the trials Stones keeper the wrong way to get the equalise for the Ravens.
For the next 10 minutes, it seemed to liven Bromley up as they were allowed to ping some dangerous crosses into the box and ask some real questions of the Stones for the first time in the evening.
Despite this, the Stones did manage to settle down towards the end of the half and nearly took the lead on the stroke of half-time when Sol Wanjau-Smith’s central free kick almost beat Sharman-Lowe on his side of the wall but thankfully for him, it went narrowly wide.
In a lively start to the second half, the trialist Stones keeper was on hand to make a great save from Alexander as he clawed out his close range header. He would get a second chance as Ben Krauhaus’ corner to the back post found Alexander who beat his man for strength and nodded past the keeper.
Jude Arthurs should really have extended Bromley’s lead when he was played in on goal on the hour mark but fired his effort over the bar with the goal gaping. Minutes after, he got another chance but had his header brilliantly tipped over the bar after the Stones fell asleep from a corner.
Soul Kader shortly coming on as a sub almost had an instant impact as he drove a low shot towards goal but was denied by the keeper.
