A solitary goal from Edon Pruti, his first for Slough Town, was enough to see the Stones defeated on the road for only the second time this season in the league.
On 13 minutes, Ben Brookes intercepted the ball and passed to Aaron Blair. Blair seized the opportunity to shoot but he scuffed the ball wide of the far post.
Not long after this, Brookes’ pass in midfield was cut out. Francis Amartey raced forward and got past Reece Greenidge only to drag his effort across goal.
Temi Eweka, returning to his old side was fouled in an advanced position inside the Slough half. Brookes’ delivery from the resultant free-kick was met by George Fowler and his header didn’t miss by much.
Blair then showed beautiful control to set up a chance. He fired the ball at Charlie Horlock who couldn’t hold onto it and the ball was hacked behind for a corner.
Slough finished the first half with a flourish. Josh Jackman hit a fierce effort straight at Alexis Andre Jr and then Slavi Spasov forced Andre Jr to make a decent parry.
The home side continued to enjoy a good amount of possession early in the second half but it was the Stones who went close on 53 minutes. Maidstone moved the ball nicely through Baylin Johnson and he found Jordan Higgs. Higgs whipped the ball to Brookes who headed it down to Blair. Blair shot as he turned and the ball went just wide of the right post.
The deadlock did get broken on 58 minutes though, with what turned out to be the winner. John Gilbert’s corner was met by Pruti who headed into the net.
George Elokobi responded quickly by bringing in Riley Court and Ricardo German for Sol Wanju-Smith and Baylin Johnson.
Court immediately made an impression. He did well to get on the end of a long ball over the top from Eweka but was stretching and couldn’t steer it goalwards. Then he twisted and turned into space before trying to pick out Blair only for the Slough defence to react quickly to concede a corner.
A short corner from Charlie Seaman went to the unmarked Court. Court took a couple of touches to advance forward before driving the ball wide.
Maidstone did up the pressure in the closing stages as they went in search of an equaliser. A header from Reece Greenidge caused issues for the Slough defence but the Stones couldn’t force the ball in. Then deep in stoppage time, a low drive from Higgs was going in but Horlock got down well to push it behind for a corner.
